Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP)

More support than weekly therapy, without staying overnight.

What This Is

A flexible, short-term therapy model that provides a higher level of support than traditional weekly therapy, helping you build practical skills in a small group setting without needing a hospital stay.

Who This Is For

  • You need more intensive help than regular outpatient sessions provide
  • You are transitioning back to daily life after a hospital stay
  • You are struggling with anxiety, depression, mood disorders, or self-harm
  • You want to address mental health concerns while still attending work or school

How It Can Help

  • Learn “Dialectical Behavioural Therapy” (DBT) skills to manage emotions and stress
  • Reduce the risk of needing inpatient hospitalisation through proactive care
  • Improve your relationships and mindfulness in a supportive group environment
  • Access a highly qualified team for both therapy and medication management

What to Expect (First Visit)

  • A mental health evaluation to ensure the program meets your specific needs
  • An introduction to the small group setting where you’ll learn alongside others
  • A clear outline of your 10-week journey, meeting 3–4 days a week for 3 hours a day
  • An individual check-in to personalise your goals within the group curriculum

What Ongoing Care Looks Like

  • Engaging in evidence-based practices through activities, discussions, and skills practice
  • Focusing on four main pillars: Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Interpersonal Effectiveness, and Emotion Regulation
  • The choice of in-person or virtual programming to fit your comfort and convenience
  • Transition planning to ensure you have a solid path forward after the 10 weeks are complete

Is This Right for You?

This is a great middle-ground option if you feel that standard therapy isn’t quite enough, but you want to stay integrated in your community and daily routine while you heal.

About Our Intensive Outpatient Programs

Intensive Outpatient Programs in Chico & Spokane

IOP is an Intensive therapy model to help support the use of skillful behaviors while improving both mental health and behavioral symptoms within a small group setting. Our Intensive Outpatient Therapy (IOP) offers an intensive interim level of care between outpatient and inpatient therapy- essentially, we offer short-term intensive therapy in a group therapy setting! Our IOP groups provide a step-up level of care from outpatient therapy and hopefully reduces the risk of need for hospitalization. It is a flexible program that meets a variety of needs while providing tools and solutions. We offer both in-person and virtual programming to fit your needs.

Our IOP groups use a DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy) approach to treatment. Our group curriculum offers a foundational set of skills using evidence-based practices delivered through psychoeducation, activity, discussion, and practice. The DBT skills we teach are delivered in four pillars, with a goal of improving: mindfulness, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, and emotion regulation. Our IOP groups meet 3-4 days a week for 3 hours a day, for a total of ten weeks.
